Maximize desktop wallpaper impact with symbolic design language

Revolutionize desktop design by seamlessly integrating wallpapers and icons for a user-friendly and imaginative experience. Join me on a minimalist exploration of new possibilities.

I, as a UX designer, joined forces with Yu Chen, an accomplished algorithm engineer, to bring our vision of minimalist desktops with symbolic design to life.

Our collaboration was a seamless blend of intense discussions and problem-solving. I was responsible for defining the color rules for the images, while Yu Chen expertly implemented the algorithm to bring our vision to reality.

AN IDEA

Unleashing Creativity with Personalized Color Schemes

At Origin OS 2.0, we wanted to break away from the conventional approach of providing pre-selected wallpapers. Instead, we aimed to empower users to unleash their creativity and make their own wallpaper the centerpiece of their desktop experience.

With our innovative color extraction algorithm, we turn the user's wallpaper into a source of inspiration. The algorithm extracts the most prominent colors from the image and generates a harmonious color scheme that adds an extra layer of personalization to the desktop.

We believe that this new approach will allow users to express their individuality, and provide an interactive and engaging desktop experience that goes beyond traditional wallpapers.

Unleash Your Creativity with the Power of Design and Algorithm - The partnership of Me and Yuchen

Together with software engineer Yuchen, I ventured into the world of minimalist wallpapers. With the combination of color extraction algorithms and our Color Cube tool, we gave users the ability to craft their own unique desktop themes.

In the case of the minimal wallpapers project, we used algorithms to extract the main colors from a user's wallpaper and then generate a set of color schemes that were applied to the desktop to form a color block-based wallpaper. These algorithms allow us to create a personalized and expressive experience for the user, with the design and algorithms working together to ensure that the colors are perfectly rendered on the desktop.

The Art of Color Curation - My Secret Behind Minimal Wallpapers

With a keen eye for design and a passion for technology, I crafted a set of rules to bring minimalist wallpapers to life. I defined a color calculation framework that marries color algorithms with 4 types of color arrangements - black and white, monochrome, dual-color, and multi-color wallpapers.

Through color-picking logic, I optimized the HSB color model and masked lackluster hues, resulting in visually striking wallpapers. And, with my innovative color-blocking logic, I arranged colors into blocks that flowed seamlessly from left to right, bottom to top. I fine-tuned the color match process by carefully selecting the most suitable colors and automatically removing unsuitable hues, to create a harmonious and balanced color palette for each wallpaper.

Each wallpaper is categorized into one of the 4 main types and treated to my color-matched process, bringing users a personalized and expressive desktop experience. My tireless work and careful attention to detail ensure that every wallpaper is a masterpiece.

A Journey from Designer to Design Leader

This project deepened my understanding of software development, honed my empathetic problem-solving skills, and transformed me into a design product manager through teamwork and continuous learning.

Clearing Uncertainties through Design Standards

Clarify uncertainties, identify development algorithms, and set design standards to execute design details efficiently with minimal code duplication, enhancing collaboration.

Expanded knowledge and skills, both as a designer and a leader.

It deepened my understanding of software development, as I delved into the code to understand how color is identified and analyzed by machines. My communication with developers helped me to develop a more empathetic approach to problem solving, as I learned to think from the developer's perspective instead of solely from my own.

Ownership for work

This motivated me to proactively reach out to other team members and allocate resources as needed. I also honed my ability to continuously learn, motivated by the technical challenges of working with developers. Perhaps most importantly, this project taught me the value of empathic thinking in collaboration.

In conclusion, this project not only made me a better leader but was also a personal breakthrough, transforming me from a solo designer to a design product manager. It is a testament to the power of teamwork, collaboration, and continuous learning, and I am proud to have been a part of it.
